While it may (or may not) be a disease, for a lot of people it is genetic (same with skinny: some obese struggle with keeping their weight down, even go on countless diets and whatnot and the weight always returns, some skinny people aren’t skinny by choice, their metabolism won’t let them gain weight)
Indeed, it is not the end of all since you can certainly work against it but it is still the weight and body type you will tend towards. A proper diet(both in reducing and afterwards) will eventually get you there but on the slighest slip-up will bounce back pretty quickly. Age also factors in, teenagers of below who are fat can normally atributte it to genetics since it requires an horrible balance of diet and physical exercise to get fat at that age.
This is what I never get, do superhero comic scientists leave awesome opportunities aside for the first shmuck to bump into it? I’d go full genetic monstrosity if I had that machinery.

Is obesity actually a disease? I’m pretty sure its self inflicted.
